Things You Shouldn't Do and Shouldn't Do in Indonesia
Indonesia is known for its stunning natural beauty. It's no
surprise that so many visitors from other countries visit. Even so, there are
some limitations to be aware of before visiting Indonesia.
According to World Nomads and The Culture Trip, there are a
few things that should not be done in Indonesia.
1. Making racial, religious, and ethnic jokes. Because
Indonesia is made up of individuals from various origins, mutual respect is
essential for the country to remain together.
2. It is illegal to imbibe alcohol in public areas, with the
exception of tourist destinations such as Bali. The majority of Indonesians
follow Islam, which preserves its principles.
3. Do not drink tap or sink water without first boiling it,
as this might make you sick. Unless it is used for bathing or cooking, the
water is still not guaranteed to be clean.
4. When eating or holding something, use your left hand. In
Indonesia, it is considered rude to use your left hand if you are right-handed.
5. When it comes to paying for things, credit cards are far
too reliant. EDC machines aren't available in every store or restaurant, right?
6. Hitchhiking or nebeng may be prevalent in other
countries, but not in Indonesia. If you don't inquire first, you may be asked
for enormous sums of money.
7. It is impolite to touch someone's head. Because the head
is where the spirit dwells, it is considered holy.
8. Not bowing when passing senior Indonesians. This
salutation expresses respect.
9. When entering someone else's home, wear shoes or sandals.
This is regarded as a disrespectful attitude.
10. Sit or stand with both feet on a chair or table. To be
considered courteous, sit with good posture.
Those were the 10 things that were prohibited and should not
be done in Indonesia...but the point is that Indonesians are kind and
welcoming.
